Dresses for Africa

Today  I sewed little dresses for Africa.
Our park sends about 100 dresses a year to this non- profit organization.
This afternoon we sewed about 20 dresses.
It was a fun time!

A little bit of This and That...

Today my youngest grandson turned 10 years old!!
It is very different being 2000 miles away
from your grandchildren on their birthdays!
I hope he had a wonderful day!
We love you buddy!!!

My middler had bought some items at a second hand store...
She gave them to me to enhance our Arizona home....
Before...
After with the vintage table cloth.
Our futon before...
She had purchased a chenille bedspread..
We found some posters for the wall
I also sewed up a couple pillow shams...
Our bedroom before the quilt...

Hubby had made little night tables...
Middler painted them.

Hubby has been busy on the outside of our lot....
He has worked very hard.
In the next couple of weeks I may have before and after pictures of what he has been up too...
Although he works so fast at times I can't get the before pictures.

I Got Mail!

Getting mail to most is no big deal.
But now that I have an American address...
getting mail for the first time was exciting...well for me!
The first day back and we had a little bundle of mail!
I had a package from one of my Blog Friends!!!
She sent me a pair of crochet slippers....
Along with a calendar...
which we really needed as we had none in our little home here!!
They are such cute, cozy slippers!!
Thank you!!!

Southward travel on....

Day two the Sunrise was reflecting on Utah's mountains...
I am thinking this is the last of the snow we will have!
Twelve hours later we are in the desert watching a beautiful sunset.
It's warm outside, we've shed our jackets, socks and shoes
(there is something about sandals and warm weather!)
Arizona Sunset
We arrived at our southern home...
had time for a swim and hot tub to end our two days of travel!

And we're off again

After a very busy three weeks of January, we headed south.
We were out the door by 5:15 AM.
By the time we watched the sunrise, we had travelled a good many miles!
We usually travel with minimal stops and don't often stop at restaurants.
But every time we pass thru Dillon MT we see this restaurant.. .
We finally stopped to pay it a visit!
It is the most delightful restaurant!
The decor was wonderful..
Old cans for lampshades...
Fifties tiles for some of the table tops!
The food was delicious...even though my choice was not to healthy!
I think we are hooked and will have to stop every time we pass through!

I have not been reading many posts as life has been so hectic!
Hopefully this trip will slow life down

Sundown Fences

The sun was setting...
This fence borders the Lacombe Research Center
The eastern sky reflected the sunset ...
It looked like the sun was setting in the east this night.

This and That Things...

We are in a nice DEEP FREEZE! School's were cancelled today as the wind chill was to cold for children waiting for buses in the country, plus the propane doesn't fair to well in weather that is -40C and colder which is what we are having!

January 2nd of this year I started teaching a sewing class. It has been almost a year since I last taught. (I did a post at the beginning of my Blogging Life...on The Sewing Studio if you are interested you can check it out). This coming Monday will be the students last lesson and then we plan on seeking warmer weather for the rest of the winter!

I must of had an interest in sewing at an early age.
This box is mine....
And here is the sewing machine.
I don't know how often I used it as a little girl...
I think it's worn because of the age of it...not because I used it a lot:)
I have a few other 'vintage' things in my sewing classroom...
An old tin...
An old sealer for spare buttons...

Serger Quilt

This weekend I finished a double Serger Quilt.
They are a quick and easy quilt to do...
You serge each piece, top, backing and batting all at once..
so when the front is finished...
The back is finished as well.
Since they are serged it is hard to keep them square..
It is difficult to make them bigger than a full size
as it is a lot of fabric to handle in the serger...
but if you want a quilt fast... (you can easily make one in 2 days)
It's a great way to make a smaller quilt!

Oak Furniture. . .

Hubby is a carpenter/teacher...he has made me many wonderful wood pieces...
some day I will have to do a post on some of the pieces he has made.
He made me a few pieces back in the 80's ...out of oak...
after a time oak becomes well tiring....

I have this daughter  (Our middler) who does a great job at refinishing...
last spring when we returned home from the south...my oak cabinet.....
Was no longer oak!!!
I love it...
it has a fresh worn look!!
Today is Middler's Birthday...

She is the one we want to take along shopping...
She finds the best material at fabric shops...
The best outfits and styles...
She's always makes us laugh.

So that's it for Birthday week....
(Thank-fully our baby's  son's birthday is in August)

Vintage Thingie Thursday...

This was my high chair ...
It was painted blue when we got it from mom and dad about 17 years ago.
It was to late for our children to use...but all our grandchildren used it.
We had it stripped down and hubby re finished it.

The 'table' had to be replaced...hubby did a great job...it looks original...

Tea Time

There is nothing like a good Tea Party!!
Over the years I have enjoyed many Tea Party's with my grandkids...
But this week we had an adult Tea Party!

We do love to eat....by the time we got to dessert...we were stuffed!

But you'll notice...we did make room for a fair bit of cake!!

There is nothing like having a special Tea Party!!

National Puppy Day

Miss Pepper…..she changed our life… But life wouldn’t be as full without her! She is a kind sweet puppy that always ‘try’s😳’ to please.
